Changing Times

Modernization and change were on the horizon for Hager. With post-war America regaining its footing in the 1950s and 1960s, Hager took the opportunity during peacetime to expand operations internationally for the first time in Hager's history to Canada in Kitchener, Ontario, to manufacture commercial hardware. Previously a St. Louis-centric venture, Hager's expansion into the northern reach of Canada was an extraordinary development that exemplified the genuine growth that the company had experienced since its founding, despite the circumstances.

During the 1950s and 1960s, Hager's reach expanded further by introducing its iconic advertising tagline, "Everything hinges on Hager." This campaign, featuring humor and illustrations by renowned cartoonist Virgil Parch, was a game-changer. It increased Hager's visibility across various publications and significantly shaped the company's public image. With the burden of wartime production and economic crash lessening, Hager could focus on establishing a connection with the public.

Relatable, down-to-earth, and family-focused, the company wished to be seen in post-war America similarly to how we seek to serve our customers today—with honesty and family first.
